If You're Asking Yourself...

The questions that keep you up at night.

Divorce when there are real assets on the line is a different game. Here's what most clients call us about first.

"Will I lose the house?"

Lakefront property, the family home, a cottage, an investment property. Real estate is often the single biggest asset in a divorce β€” and the most contested.

"What about my pension and RRSPs?"

Years of disciplined saving. Retirement accounts, pensions, and CPP credits are equalized in Ontario. The math matters. The strategy matters more.

"Can my spouse take half my business?"

If you built a company before or during the marriage, valuation and equalization need careful handling β€” not a templated separation agreement.

"What's actually mine vs. ours?"

Inheritances. Pre-marriage assets. Gifts. Investment growth. Ontario's property division rules have exclusions and traps. Don't guess.

"How do I avoid getting taken advantage of?"

If your spouse has hired aggressive counsel β€” or is hiding assets β€” you need someone who plays the same game, sharper.

"How long is this going to take?"

The wrong lawyer drags this out for years. The right one builds a strategy that resolves things faster β€” and on better terms.

Common Questions

Answers to what most clients ask first.

How is property divided in an Ontario divorce?
Ontario uses an equalization model. Each spouse calculates the value of their net family property as of the date of separation, and the spouse with the higher net family property generally pays half the difference to the other. There are exclusions (gifts, inheritances, certain pre-marriage assets) and traps. The math sounds simple. The execution rarely is.
How much does a divorce lawyer cost?
It depends on complexity, but for high-asset divorces we work transparently β€” you'll know our rates and structure on day one. Our goal is to spend your money where it changes the outcome, not where it doesn't. The free strategy call gives you a realistic estimate before you commit to anything.
Do I have to go to court?
In most asset-heavy divorces, no β€” most cases resolve through negotiation, mediation, or four-way settlement meetings. Court is the last resort, but if it's needed, we're prepared. The strategy is built backwards from the best possible outcome, not from the courtroom.
What if my spouse is hiding assets?
It happens. Ontario family law has disclosure obligations and tools to enforce them β€” sworn financial statements, documentary disclosure, valuators, and questioning under oath. If we suspect concealment, we have the playbook to surface it.
How long will the divorce take?
Uncontested divorces with full agreement can resolve in a few months. Contested asset divisions can take 12-24 months. Strategy and disclosure speed matter more than how aggressive your lawyer sounds. We'll give you a realistic timeline on the call.
Do you serve my area?
Yes β€” we serve clients throughout Lakeshore, Belle River, LaSalle, Kingsville, Amherstburg, Sarnia, and surrounding Windsor-Essex and Lambton communities. Most consultations are virtual or by phone, with in-person meetings available when needed.

The first move shapes the whole case.
